Tanso welcomes the ISO–GHG Protocol Partnership Toward Unified Global Carbon Accounting Standards

At Tanso, we are proud to support the recent announcement that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the GHG Protocol will join forces to develop a harmonized, co-branded global standard for greenhouse gas emissions accounting.
This collaboration represents a major step toward clarity and consistency in how organizations worldwide measure and report their carbon emissions. By aligning the widely adopted GHG Protocol Corporate Standards with the authoritative ISO 1406x series, companies will soon have a unified framework for Corporate Carbon Footprints (CCFs).
Why Harmonization Matters
1. Clarity and Consistency
For years, organizations have navigated a patchwork of methodologies, often spending valuable time reconciling differences. A harmonized standard will reduce confusion, simplify compliance, and ensure comparability across industries and regions.
2. Trust and Transparency
Reliable data is the foundation of credible climate action. Consistent reporting builds confidence among stakeholders — from customers and investors to regulators — ensuring that sustainability claims are backed by robust, globally recognized standards.
3. Efficiency for Businesses
Less complexity means companies can redirect resources from framework alignment to real impact. Streamlined processes will allow sustainability teams to focus on reducing emissions rather than interpreting multiple rulebooks.
4. Policy and Market Alignment
With ISO standards embedded in legislation and GHG Protocol used by nearly all major corporations reporting to CDP, this partnership strengthens the bridge between policy, finance, and business. Unified standards will make it easier for companies to respond to regulation and investor expectations alike.
